The internet went a-buzz this week with the sounds of an illegal leak of Coldplay's highly-anticipated new record, Viva La Vida. To combat this, rather than pushing up the release date of June 17th, the band has decided to offer a free stream of the record via their MySpace page for international fans and via IHeartMusic for the U.S., starting tonight. What do you think - will this prevent fans from illegally downloading the leak? Will it then encourage the purchase upon release? Is there anything else that could be done?
Sidenote, what do you think of the record - yay or nay?

i think coldplay fans will be buying this record regardless, although in my opinion, releasing it a week earlier may have been better if that was an option.

I downloaded it even though I have it preordered from iTunes and Amazon.

I think it's a great idea. I'm slightly ashamed to say I downloaded the leak, but purely to decide whether or not I would buy the album.
Happily, I will definately buy it, I really enjoy the new things they try on it.
Besides, there was a free preview of X&Y before that happened on some music sites too.

does a pre-release leak really even hurt sales that much anymore? it's out a week early or the day it hits stores. either way people know they'll be able to get it free in the not too distant future.
