8/14 Seattle

Sound On The Sound has all the details from the tour closer in Seattle:

...Part of what I like so much about this band is the unafraid vocal interplay between guitar player Solon Bixler and female vocalist and keyboard player Rachel Stolte. The layering of the male-female combination and the number of ways in which they choose to use it gives each song a unique depth and a warmth, makes each song a new listening experience...

8/13 Portland, OR

Harmonium Music has all the details from the Portland show:

...Rachel Stolte’s vocals on “Low Is a Height” lingered hauntingly, recalling Poe in her more intimate moments, and despite the show’s meager attendance, up-tempo tracks like “Into The Sun”, “The Middle” and “Home” got the crowd moving and engaged...

8/10 Los Angeles, CA

In-Flight At Night has all the details from the Los Angeles show:

...Of particular note was the chemistry between Solon Bixler and Rachel Stolte, Great Northern’s dueling vocalists/songwriters, which comes across in more ways than songwriting alone. Watching them onstage nothing feels fake or forced, contrary to what often happens when a band contains two strong creative personages...

8/09 San Diego, CA

Chick Rawker
reports back from the San Diego show:

...By the time they played “Home” (which everyone in the crowd knew), they had hit their stride and finished their set strongly with “The Middle” and “Into The Sun”. Andy and Nicole came out of “Into The Sun” and played percussion and sang much like Solon and Rachel did for them earlier...

8/06 Denver, CO

Cause = Time
has all the details from the Denver show:

...The small details are what really caught my attention. I love seeing bands play that have a glow that is evident to everybody standing around in the venue. They have an amazing repoire that I have never seen in any other group. Their sound is unique with their distorted percussion, whimsical vocals, and beyond amazing talent for musicianship...

8/04 Oklahoma City, OK

Shoes Are For Work reports back from the Oklahoma City show:

...Rachel Stolte and Solon Bixler's vocal combination is even more beautiful in person and paired with the lights and dreamy haze of the keys creates a mood unparalleled by many bands (especially at a live show)...

8/02 Austin, TX

Both Sides Of The Mouth has all the details from the Austin show:

...the band's vocals were as smooth and dreamy as ever. Their male/female vocal combination is one to be envied. Ambient feedback and heavy percussion saturated all of their performance, leaving raw nerves to be scintillated by the waves of keyboard and guitar...

Notes From Great Northern

08/04/07

so..i didn't know what i would  think of alabama..but i have to say that the experience was pretty awesome....
we stayed at a doubletree hotel..
and it was "pimp style" for tour..
they provided white robes  for us and had a bell hop to help us to our room.
and!!!!!!
they have these hot chocolate chip cookies that they give you when you check in...
i think we ate like 20 of them..
so davey and i put on our white robes and did a facial mask that was green..and ran up and down the halls..
i don't know why we were running...
i think we were just excited.
the venue was called the bottle tree and it was one of our favorite places we played..
the people were so nice..and accomodating and the food was great..the stage was great..the club had this really cool vibe.
they had tons of photo books and art books to look at..and a dj that played super rad music before the show..andthe girl's bathroom was like a french parlor..
with art work all over the walls and a fancy place to sit and get ready..and it smelled good.
which in general at clubs on tour..
never happens.
ohhhh
birmingham.

austin is really an amazing city..
the birds  are very agressive. they will attack you for food..
it's pretty rad.
the river that runs through it also has turtles sun bathing on rocks..and big spider web balls hanging from the trees..and black swans..
it is like this magical crazy world underneath a bridge..
so the show that night was really great too..
it is funny..everywhere we go..there are 30 seconds to mars fans..who have been following solon's career and are there to support him..
it is pretty awwesome he signed some of their bracelets..
and they have been helping us to put up posters and promote our shows..and have become great northern fans now..
so thanks to all of them for being so great!
we ran into some old friends too and that is always fun..
one of them was ian.(formerly of slowreader).and he bought solon some shots of a whiskey called "powers.".i don't really know what is in that stuff..but it makes you crazy...
let's just say that the night got very intersting..
somebody's pants came off...there was some questionable activity...and there was a camera there to capture it all..
we'll see what we can send and what we can't!(photo
wise)

so last night was amazing..
we played in dallas..and the show was great..but the best part was afterward when we went to the "bar" next door to have a night cap...and do a few other things..
the venue next door was getting ready for a big concert with don henley and the pretenders an the stray cats..
ashley got into trouble for peeking into their rehearsal room..
i thought the guy was gonna kill her!
then we walked into this bar..that had a huge dance floor and lights that were rotating and spinning..and making the room look like it was rotating and spinning..
we took off our shoes and had contests for who could slide accross the floor the farthest and the fastest..
or who could spin the other person around in clrcles..faster...and faster...enough  to make them almost ....barf.
we decided that a good thing to do was to be  taking shots of patron at the same time with the local "people" of dallas..
then we got to get on the actual mechanical bull that they rode in urban cowboy..
don't think thatat there aren't going to be some photos to follow!
we looove dallas.

7/30 Atlanta, GA

Confessions Of A Music Addict
on the Atlanta show:

"This band has two hot chicks that know exactly how to lull you into a Xanax-like state that commands attention and love. The crowd at tonight's show proved that when I looked around and noticed everyone just staring and listening as intently as a group of people being told the secret to prolonged life."
