Carina Round Freakin' Loves Tom Waits

Our good friends at Spinner asked the lovely Carina Round to pick and describe a song she "freakin' loves." She chose the title track from Tom Waits' 2000 album, Alice.  Note a passage from her essay:

Waits' voice is pressed around your ears like your mother's heartbeat in the womb, and the instrumental arrangements trickle in and out subtly with a soft, understated genius like a sweet breeze on a hot, perfect sunny day. The muted trumpet melts like ice in the song over the warm, cracked voice that's wracked with age and loaded with the weight of all the world's love.

The Cinematics Tour UK & France

Reaching the end of their US tour, The Cinematics have now announced plans to take their show to the UK with The Bravery.  Following those dates, the band will be headlining shows through France.  For all the up-to-date tour information and details, head on over to the band's MySpace page: www.myspace.com/thecinematics.

The Cinematics MySpace Contest

The Cinematics have announced a new contest to reward their best fans.  All you have to do is friend them over at their MySpace page, then list them as your top friend.  The band will be scouring about their friends' pages, and if they find themselves as your top friend, you'll be awarded a prize.  Prizing can range from a signed poster, signed photo and/or a pair of tickets to a show with the chance to meet the band!  A winner will be named once a week, and the contest has no end in sight.
